Forces all freshmen to take a mandatory class involving weekly social gatherings and extra homework to commit to personal progress regarding their academics within BYUI.
This program, called "Experience BYU-Idaho," was created to save themselves from students who are more likely to leave the school due to a lack of determination. Meaning they punish all students with mandatory work, equal to one credit, just because of a select few.
This strategy, made out of cowardice and ignorance, has achieved the opposite effect in me and many of my classmates. The excess workload ONTOP of all other classes (including required general education classes) has diminished our determination and lowered our overall enthusiasm and pride to be students of BYUI.
It is clear that BYUI does not prioritize the personal lives of its students but rather its student population (more students means more money). Displays of bad moral characters such as this have influenced my opinion in rating this school one star. I hope others do the same so that BYUI will actually listen to our voices for a change. (Worse reviews mean fewer students, which means less money).
Everything is about the wallet in major corporations and, though I had hoped the affiliation with the Church would mean this issue is less problematic ("For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." -Luke 18:25), BYUI is no exception as proven by their atrocious policies.
